During the Summer months of 2023, I designed a sermon series for Forest Hill Church on the Gospel of Mark. In order to match the fast-paced action of the text, it was decided that we go for a vintage comic book aesthetic. I ended up drawing over 100+ images for the series, weaving in some of my biblical and historical research where I could.
One of the things we discussed about the drawings was how should we depict Jesus. I didn't want to draw another series with a long-haired Caucasian Savior. We took a lot of inspiration form the Bible Project, the paintings of Elsie Anna Wood, and recent archeological renderings. We decided that the world around Jesus should be full of brown people. Jesus's face would be obscured in shadow or cut off where we could to allow congregants to form their own idea of Jesus throughout the series.

In addition to drawings for the series, I also designed oversized posters for the atrium as well as other materials that would appear on screen during the reading of the Scriptures.
